Why this collaboration?
NSHM Knowledge Campus has partnered with The Bickram Ghosh Academy of Performing Arts to offer courses in Performing Arts from the ensuing academic session. The courses would be in three categories—Vocal & Instrumental music besides Dance.
Announcing the partnership at a press conference, NSHM Chief Mentor & Managing Trustee Cecil Antony said, “We are very happy to tie up with the prestigious academy. Performing Arts not only engages with the creative side of the brain, it also provides an ideal balance in students’ patterns of study. Through creative expressions, students learn to comprehend our world better and are therefore better equipped to navigate the challenges they face in life. Our students and other aspirants would now get a chance to train under the very best.”
Percussion maestro Bickram Ghosh “I had a dream to let the beauty of music resonate in as many lives as possible. In our city, it is still not easy to find a good music or dance teacher, a congenial environment and an upgraded technique of teaching. This partnership will offer that opportunity. Our handpicked faculty will be the best in their respective genre.”
He further added, “performing arts can act as an agent through which a variety of emotions can be learned, rehearsed and practiced. Young students sometime find it difficult to express their emotions and so, the arts provide a great outlet for them to explore a wide range of feelings including delight, anger and unhappiness. This experience can define a student’s growing sense of independence and interdependence.”
The course under vocals would cover Hindustani vocals, Rabindra Sangeet, Ghazal/ Sufi Kalam, Contemporary Vocals and Bhajan. Under instrumental there would be training in Sitar, Tabla, Guitar, Keyboards and Western Drums. In dance – Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Contemporary and Creative Dance forms would be taught.

The Ultimate Learning destination for the Performing Arts
There are many musical institutions in the country. However for years a generic mode of teaching has resulted in a distinct lack of dynamism in teaching techniques. Furthermore once the students are ready and venture out professionally, there is no guiding hand to help them on in their journey. More so most institutions are located in a single building in one part of the city which makes it immensely difficult for students to travel and learn on a regular basis. Another aspect that is not resolved by musical institutions is that most institutions of repute specialize in limited subjects. This drastically reduces options for students and hence most students are left with no choice but to opt for private lessons given by amateurs.
The Bickram Ghosh Academy of Performing Arts addresses all these issues and provides the ultimate learning platform for students. For two years now the BGAPA operates through four academies across Kolkata (Southern avenue, Behala, Salt lake and Nagerbazaar) which train over 500 students. Now it has branched out to online certificate courses and special diploma courses including Theatre into its repertoire. Apart from this, affiliations with reputed universities is also on the pipeline.
